Sugar Alternatives for Tea lovers with “Health Benefits”

White Sugar- Alternative to Sweet tea

Many tea lovers like their cup of tea with sugar. However, the growing adverse health impact of refined or white sugar forces people to explore other alternatives. Besides, diabetes, high cholesterol, weight gain, etc. are the manifestations of these adverse health consequences. The question is, Can we still enjoy tea with a slight sweetness to it? I especially like my tea, without any sugar or sugar substitutes. I love the rich aroma and taste of tea leaves without any additives.

But for tea lovers with an added sweetness to their tea, I here provide alternatives for sugar in your cuppa tea!

Organic Honey

Honey has been demonstrated to have antifungal, antibacterial, and antimicrobial attributes. It is universally used as a replacement in beverages. It’s READILY available in our Kitchen pantry. As the trend is towards using “Organic” products, use a good organic brand from the local markets. These days the trend is towards using “Manuka Honey”.

Organic Maple Syrup

Maple Syrup

This item is my favorite as I am a Canadian, and it is the most prized item in every Canadian household. It’s used to create an infinite number of recipes and has become a special ingredient in many culinary experiences.

My husband, who is partially Vegan, uses this as a replacement for honey and sugar in my house. Besides its rich taste, it is also full of antioxidants.

Stevia

Stevia

Stevia has gained a lot of popularity recently! As per Stevia.com, “the stevia plant is a small shrub that has been used as a source of natural,zero-calorie sweetness for hundreds of years, this is native to South America.

Stevia leaf extract may be an excellent option for those looking to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle because it has zero calories. The extraordinary thing about stevia leaf extract is that it’s a medium that will allow you to eat some of your desired sweet foods and beverages, but with less sugar and still allow weight gain management.

Jaggery

Jaggery is extensively used in many Indian Cuisine to create delicacies such as sesame snaps, mango chutney, sweetened puri (malpua), etc. It has unparalleled health benefits compared to white sugar. It’s beneficial in preventing cold and cough, menstrual cramps, migraines and headaches, and anemia. It is rich in iron and helps in. Boosting immunity.

Some other alternatives to sugar are Molasses, brown sugar, agave nectar, and coconut sugar.

I personally like to enhance my tea with sweet herbs and spices such as mint and cardamom, but that’s my taste bud. Each one have distinct taste bud and should enjoy food accordingly. A tip would always be to measure the pros and cons to get the best out of any alternative.
