Tea has tons of health benefits, especially green tea, which is well known for its health properties. Green tea enhances “Cognitive Functioning.” Due to its flavonoid content, green tea can be better than black tea for eyes.
Tea, in its pure “tea leaves” form, is best for brewing and enhancing the aroma and taste. However, with the modern age, “Teabags” were introduced to save time and convenience. I personally love my tea steeped and brewed form “organic tea leaves,” but teabags are commonly used by the working class and instant tea drinkers.
Apart from convenience, studies have suggested using teabags as a compress for eye concerns? I have used it personally on my eyes to get rid of a stye. At a young age, anything popping on your face freaks you out. I had a big pimple on my eyes, and I was asked to apply warm and cold tea bags to compress my eyes to reduce the stye size.
Ok! ENOUGH OF MY STYE TALK!
Let’s find out more about teabags and their benefits.
Using Teabags as a cold compress can
- reduce dark circles under the eye
- reduce puffed and swelled up eyes
- relieve inflammation caused due to pink eye or conjunctivitis
- reduce pain in the event of minor injuries such as getting pricked by a pencil or a finger, hit by small objects, etc
Using Teabags as a Warm compress
- can help treat styes or chalazion, this tops my list due to my personal story.
- Can Reduce dryness in the eyes, which often happens with me during the fall/winter season in Canada.
In a study, the British Journal of Ophthalmology found that people who drink hot tea daily were 74% less likely to have glaucoma than those who did not drink hot tea.
The study evaluated the association between coffee consumption, tea or soft drinks, and glaucoma in the participants.
Studies have suggested the health benefits of tea due to their polyphenol and antioxidants elements. Adding to them are the benefits that can be extended to eye cures also.
