Intermittent Fasting – Does it Work?

There is numerous literature on Intermittent Fasting and for those who are new to the concept, I have curated an article you can go through below. I wanted to share my own first hand experience with Intermittent Fasting, having been doing it for last 6 months or so. Let’s touch upon the following:

Is it worth it?
I definitely have experienced the benefits of Intermittent Fasting in terms of loosing weight. The main science behind intermittent fasting is to eat within a small window of time while abstaing from food for a longer interval. I eat within 2pm – 6pm every day, which is a 4 hour window. This is not something I started doing right from the start. I started with a 12 hour eating window and eventually reduced it to 4 hours. I started to see results almost immediately. When you do intermittent fasting you immediately start to loose the excess water weight in your body and you see the results very quickly.

Is it sustainable?
I have been doing intermittent fasting for over 6 months now and have used to my eating routine now. The key is to start slowly and not starve yourself. Whether you feel hungry or have cravings during your fasting window also depends on what you ate the previous day. If you do intermittent fasting but gorge on sugar and high carb food during your eating window then you are sure to fail as you will keep craving for carbs during your fasting window. I was immensely helped by Dr. Eric Berg’s numerous videos on Intermittent Fasting and Keto diet. He recommends healthy Keto diet to an extreme but you can still benefit by following his advice in moderation. That is even if you can’t follow the Keto diet regimen. I reduced my carb intake but didn’t follow a strick Keto diet and still got benefitted in terms of weight loss and improved vitals.
