Health Canada Recall of Hand Sanitizers-What to do?

During these unprecedented times, hand sanitizers have become a popular item to purchase. The fear of COVID 19 is so much that we forget to do the due diligence of buying products claimed to be saving lives. This comprises hand Sanitizers, masks, gloves, shields, and Alcohol Wipes. With the onset of COVID 19, all the safety products have seen a growing demand, which has prompted more and more suppliers to enter the health and safety domain. This has fostered a lot of concerns regarding the safety aspect of the merchandise.

Hand Sanitizers have become an essential item in every household, cars, buildings, restaurants, etc. Hand sanitizers have come under inspection recently with more brands being recalled by Health Canada, resulting in some questioning the safety of products being used daily.

Most Hand sanitizers contain ethanol and aloe vera gel. Still, few entrants in the market have started using methanol and Ethyl acetate in quantities that have long-term impacts on health. The skin can ingest these or, if swallowed, can be life-threatening or result in death too!

Due to the risks posed by few hand sanitizers that have entered the recall list, the benefits may get outweighed by risks. The best solution is to continue handwashing with soap and water. When out of reach for soap and water, hand sanitizers, that has Health Canada or CDC approval should be used.

For my blog readers, I have included the list put up by Health Canada of the recalled names.
