Dropshipping -Good or Bad

Recently, I have been reading a lot on dropshipping. I have been in the Human Resources department for more than 15 years now, and I know from the bottom of my heart that my passion has always remained in “Marketing,” “Brand Management,” “Exploring Sales,” and “Product launches,” to name a few, in short, “eCommerce”

My journey started with the COVID crisis and the fact that everyone has shifted to “work from home.” I’m now extremely motivated to start my own business to guarantee a secured income. I took the “work from home” opportunity positively to stay safe, and a means to slowly begin to pursue my dream of blogging, exploring possibilities in Marketing, and introducing new products close to my heart. My blog part has taken off fine, thanks to all of you who have contributed as a reader in my journey.

The curiosity of exploring Sales platforms, discovering various technologies, and researching ideas that become big, was still pondering in my head. I am excellent at doing research work, and I have mastered it time, being a frequent traveler and mom.

I started my blog, to write about stuff that I appreciate in life, my website was up and running in a few weeks, and content started streaming too. I learned a lot about marketing(SEO, Facebook ads, running campaigns, capitalizing on social media channels, creating landing pages, etc.). I then took “Shopify membership” to explore the mystery behind this eCommerce giant, proudly Canadian. The more extensive research I did, the more I was inclined to launch something on “Shopify.” That got me introduced to the trending domain of “dropshipping” as a medium for selling. I had only heard about it, and finally, I am learning. Unlike traditional sales, the complete extinction of steps such as “Inventory Management,” “Shipping,” etc. is impressive. It just took away all that I had learned in marketing in my MBA days. It was fascinating, and I started looking at products to add to my shopping cart on Shopify, I was very excited to launch my first product.

It’s incredible to explore so many apps, and some of them great, which reduces a lot of hard work required. One such app is “Oberlo” great for dropshipping. Most of you on Shopify must be familiar with this app. You can read more about the app here. I have also added the video below,

Before I could move to the next step of adding my “niche” products, I came across a great article on “dropshipping.” on “Finder.com.”

It is a complete guide on “what dropshipping” involves.

Here is an excerpt, “If you’re thinking of setting up an e-commerce business or just a side hustle to earn some extra cash, you’ll probably have heard of dropshipping. Dropshipping allows you to sell online without worrying about manufacturing, storing, or shipping products – that’s all managed by a dropshipping supplier.

But while it sounds simple in theory, setting up and running a dropshipping business can be quite complicated. This guide explains how dropshipping works, finding a dropshipping supplier, and increasing your chances of success when selling online.

After reading the article, I have paused and have begun to wonder, is drop shipping “Hit or Miss.” The questions that grappled me are

  1. Is dropshipping/e-commerce a good source of additional income?
  2. How easy is it to manage?
  3. What is the net profit?
  4. Costs of marketing ads?
  5. How do I enforce customer satisfaction as most goods are dropshipped from China, through Ali-express?
  6. How to find a great supplier?
  7. Above all, how do you get traffic on your website to convert into sales?

Till I get my answers, the dropshipping idea has been put to halt. Let me know if it is the right choice, or should I still pursue my dream? Read more in the article “dropshipping for beginners,” which transformed my mindset.
