Did you Know? Magic in your Kitchen

Magic Ingredient
Methi seeds, Fenugreek

After my first child, my hormones were all off! I started having severe knee pain, and the doctor advised the painkiller. I was hesitant as I was breastfeeding. However, the pain was unbearable, and I gave the medicine a try! As we know, these painkillers can cure one ailment but produce whole other issues! It had severe side effects causing Diarrhoea, headache, hallucinations, etc. I could not have continued with the same medicine.

As I always do, I called my mom and explained the situation. Seeing her daughter go through so much trouble, she asked me to practice an ancient Indian ayurvedic “home remedy.” Trust me, anytime I struggle with the allopathy medications; I turn to my mom for her home remedies.

Anyway, she asked me to make a powder of “Methi,” Fenugreek seeds, and cone teaspoon with water in an empty stomach every morning. I tried this for a week, and slowly I could feel the difference. My pain had started decreasing from the second day itself, and by the end of a week, it disappeared.

What a relief, the pain was cured, and my guilt of adulterating my breast milk with medicines no longer existed. Later I read more about this magic-cure and studied more on this ingredient that I used so often in my recipes.

Fenugreek, the natural methi dana, has long ruled over the Indian kitchen space. The culinary range and the versatility of FenugreekFenugreek are endless. Apart from its taste enhancing properties, it also has health benefiting properties. Many households in India soak a teaspoon of seeds overnight, drink the herbal water first thing in the morning, they use the powdered form in hair masks, and face packs to solve some of the most common skincare issues. These are widespread practices in India.

The above benefits can go beyond contributing a GREAT aroma and a discrete flavor to your meals; if used PROPERLY, the ingredient can promise good health and a BOOST to the immune system.

Some of the other key benefits of “MethiAyurveda ‘Ayurveda” are:

Inflammation reduction I had first-hand experience with this, and hence it tops my list of benefits. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of fenugreek help in inflammation reduction.

Increases milk flow in Breastfeeding Mother Mother to 2 kids; this was the most important benefit for me. I did not struggle with milk production, but increasing the flow was very attractive, especially with a readily available ingredient in my kitchen. It has a substance that is supposed to stimulate the milk ducts and increase milk production.

Aids in digestive issues FenugreekFenugreek can be a blessing for people experiencing stomach infirmities. It can stop constipation as well as other digestive problems created by stomach ulcers. As per ayurvedic literature, it is also useful for treating gastritis and indigestion.

Apart from all the above, studies include Controlling diabetes and improving cholesterol levels as the other expected benefits.

Sometimes, we have ingredients readily available in our kitchen, which can help medically. If it does not cure, at least it will have no side effects.

In my case, it was “Methi,” it could be anything such as Turmeric, honey, carom seeds, Asofetida…will continue sharing my experience with one of these “kitchen magic.”
